Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
John 10: 7-9
A sermon I listened to on this topic early on in my faith journey hit me hard. The pastor spoke about Jesus being the door, an entryway to the Father, the Way of Salvation. He expounded on specifically verse nine, “If ANYONE enters by me, He will be saved…” This truth struck my stubborn and slow-to-believe heart. I was struggling to accept the fact that salvation was free gift to all who believe (Romans 5:15-18; 6:23). I wanted to do something for it; I wanted a special experience, maybe even an audible voice telling me that “you are a child of God”. I was so afraid of deceiving myself, of being presumptuous, of claiming faith in Christ when I wasn’t allowed to…
But by God’s amazing grace, once again, He led me through this time of doubting. I can now say without a doubt Jesus is the door, the way of salvation for all who would believe. I believe in the finished work of Christ that He is the Son of God, and He died on the cross for all the sins of all His people (those who believe in Him through faith). No matter how small my faith, no matter how sinful, no matter my feelings… I simply believe… for we are commanded to…
“Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”
Acts 16:31
We must also remember that the door of Salvation is an open door. Until Jesus returns for the final judgment, there is still time to pass through that door. To believe in Jesus… to believe everything He says He is in the Bible… The Son of God, the Risen King, is the only Mediator between God and man. Some of you may say, “Oh, but the Lord must give me the power to believe.” That is true in a way; salvation is only by and through Christ. But, if we believe by faith in what Jesus says in the Bible, are we not given that power then?
Christ is a willing Savior! Will you deny Him? Will you say once again? “I hear and read Your promises of Salvation, but I feel they are not for me.” If not you, then who? Did not Christ come to save sinners? Are you not a sinner? Then go to Him, believe in Him, and be saved!
“But you say: This is a contradiction; ‘If I am deaf, how can I hear? If I am blind, how can I look?’ Leave God to settle that difficulty. Only listen and look up.
